Bioethers and Butanol

Bioethers wheat or sugar beet are used to make bioether. It may also be created from the leftover glycerol from biodiesel production. Bioether is expected to replace petro-ether as a complement to current fossil fuels.

Butanol is another major microorganism-produced chemical that may be used as a fuel or component of a fuel. Butanol is simpler to blend with heavier hydrocarbons, such as gasoline, due to its long chain. In an internal combustion engine, butanol can be used as a fuel. It resembles gasoline more than it does ethanol. Butanol, a C4-hydrocarbon, is a drop-in fuel that may be used in cars intended for gasoline without modification.
